Somewhere to the West lies a city. The first sight the traveller sees of this city are the spiralling steps and onion-dome towers rising, as if in greeting, out of the mist, and the ring of hooves and feet on the paved streets, and the cockerel greeting the new day. The scenic sight proves treacherous all too frequently: for many a traveller races to greet the beautiful city and falls prey to the treacherous ground surrounding the city: pits, cracked earth and old mining shafts that have claimed many travellers.
